If you remove the 8GR battery pack, you will see a silver-grey label on the back of the 8GR. You should also have a spare one in the 8GR's boxed items.

Then carefully work a small blade (jeweller's) screwdriver around the EDGE of this label (it's really stuck on with 3M glue!) and remove it, you'll see a small slide switch (set to the right LEAVFE IT ALONE this is for doing firmwre updates using the serial cable, and a SMD 0-ohm resister to the right.

Crush that SMD resistor with needlenose pliers and do a full reset of the 8GR (make sure that you've backed up your memories and settings with or just create new memory).

You know have opened up the tx for MARS/CAP and other use (FRS/GMRS, marine).
