Our #deepspace antenna #GHY6 saw @NASAJPL #Perseverance descent to #Mars - with @BAESystemsplc we captured the signal 'tones' showing steps of descent & rapid frequency shift during deceleration in the Martian atmosphere.

This is a recording from our live event, showing how we were receiving signals from Mars2020 / Perseverance Rover with our 20m dish at Bochum-Observatory until cruise stage separation at 20:38, UTC (10 minutes before Entry).

The Medium Gain Antenna (MGA) which provides communication during interplanetary cruise will than be no longer available after cruise stage separation. Instead a backshell-mounted Tilted Low Gain Antenna (TLGA) provides spacecraft-to-Earth downlink during EDL, but it's signal will be too weak for Bochum. MRO will receive telemetry from the lander and then relay it to NASA’s Deep Space Network (DSN) antennas on Earth.
Rover Touchdown is expected at 20:55, UTC.
